They are the benchmark on this page, and they get no second review real short download here. The rung underneath them is bigger than most people expect. It also includes at least one short drama app that beats all five on downloads. The App Store and Google Play store pages for every name below were went through on September 23, 2026. Publisher names, launch dates and install counts make for unglamorous columns, but they are exactly the ones a marketing team cannot inflate. Where the two stores disagree, I give both. Any assertion that circulates without a primary source gets flagged as unverified here.

Reading the Second Tier on One Screen

Two snap notes on the columns before you read down. Google Play reports installs in buckets, so 10M+ and 100M+ are bands rather than tallies, and an app at the bottom of a band can be far smaller than one at the top. Launch dates are drawn from the listings, which routinely log the iOS and Android releases a matter of weeks apart. When a cell says not reported, the data point was not in the store pages or the published data I went through. That blank is real rather than careless, since an iOS-only app has no Google Play number to give. Since all seven sell short dramas in the same vertical format, the table sticks to the paperwork and leaves the content alone.

App

Publisher as the store listing gives it

Launched

Installs on Google Play

What is notable

NetShort

NETSTORY PTE. The publisher on Google Play is NETSTORY PTE. LTD., with the store listing showing a release date of July 22, 2024. Which means it is younger than DramaBox, ShortMax and My Drama. It has still reached the 100M+ install bucket, the same band as ReelShort and DramaBox. Placed third worldwide by downloads in Q1 2026 by Sensor Tower, it carries the most solid third-party number on this page. What it lacks is a matching place in the revenue tables, where DramaBox and ReelShort sat level at about $140M each that three-month stretch. Since downloads and money are separate contests, NetShort is currently winning only one of them.

FlexTV

FlexTV is the veteran of this group and gets less attention than its age merits. The publisher on both store pages is YUDER PTE. LTD., and both point to an October 2022 launch. That lands about two months after ReelShort and half a year before DramaBox. It sits in the 10M+ install bucket, which is a full band below NetShort. Clearly, a head start in this market has not been worth much on its own. FlexTV reads as a stable drama app rather than a growing one, which makes four years of accumulated episodes its real selling point.

MoboReels

Of the names here, MoboReels takes the longest to pin down. The App Store seller is CHANGDU (HK) TECHNOLOGY LIMITED, while Google Play names MOBOREADER TECHNOLOGY USA. So a single app carries two registered names across two legal territories. Common enough in this category, split naming is not a warning sign by itself, but it does rule out the publisher line as a quick identity check. The launch is another disagreement between the stores, landing in June or July 2023. Installs sit at 10M+, the same band as FlexTV and GreatShort. If you install it, note which store took your money, because refund requests go to Apple or Google rather than to one outfit.

Kalos TV

Kalos TV is the smallest app here, sitting in the 5M+ band. Its publisher is Storyverse Co., Limited, and both stores date the launch to September 2023, the month ShortMax arrived. The interesting part is what the store pages omit. Many write-ups call it a Kuaishou project, and its Android package name carries a kw prefix that people treat as evidence. No link to Kuaishou is confirmed in either store page, and I could not verify one from a primary source. Any article that states it flatly warrants skepticism, because a fragment of a package name is a hint and not a chain of ownership.

TopShort

The odd one out is TopShort, because iOS is the only place I could confirm it exists. Han Book Pte. Ltd. is the App Store seller, JoyHunter is the developer name and the launch is given as June 2023. Presented as an app for novels and drama, it sits in the same tradition as GoodShort. The reason to try it is that pairing. If you already follow serialized web fiction, the catalog logic and the source material behind the adaptations will be familiar. No Google Play bucket exists for it in my notes, so I am not going to estimate its size from a single store.

FreeReels

The best marquee number on this page belongs to FreeReels, and so does the thinnest documentation behind it. Sensor Tower ranked it first globally by downloads in Q1 2026, ahead of everything else here and ahead of the five famous apps. It belongs to Kunlun Tech, the group behind DramaWave, which Media Partners Asia credits with about 13% of the microdrama market outside China. The download leader and a top-five revenue app therefore sit under one company. Whenever anybody calls this business a two-horse race, that is worth remembering. No debut date or download bucket went into my notes for it, so open the store page and read the purchase list yourself.

GreatShort

A real Android app from Intelligent Journey Inc, GreatShort sits in the 10M+ band on Google Play. Its pitch is uncommon, because the store blurb says the app is free, with “no subscription and no hidden fees”. That is the developer’s own statement in its own store listing, not a finding I confirmed by taking an account through a full series. The first place to probe it is the store page’s in-app purchase panel. Monetization changes here without warning, so a description written in September 2026 is a point-in-time record rather than a promise. For anyone who refuses to leave a weekly pass running, GreatShort is the obvious first stop if the assertion holds up.

The Names Worth a Look

On what the store listings support, NetShort is the first install, and it has the scale and the printed ranking to back up it. FreeReels is second on the same logic, plus a parent firm with a real record in the category. FlexTV is third, and it is the one I would open to dip into rather than to follow a new release. TopShort wins a place only for iOS users who read web novels, for whom the combined back catalogue is a genuine difference. Kalos TV and MoboReels are unremarkable apps that their own store listings give no reason to pick over the larger ones. Give GreatShort ten minutes to see whether its no-subscription assertion withstands contact with a paywall. The five major apps and their official channels still serve anybody who simply wants to watch dramas online without a new download.

When Only the Name Is Real

In this tier the remaining trouble comes from search, not from software. Brand-looking phrases are frequently only misspelled guesses, so real short, reel shorts and realshort all resolve to ReelShort, printed by New Leaf Publishing. Two others now land somewhere real, because great short as two words reaches GreatShort and free reel reaches FreeReels. As new apps debut, a dead-end search can turn into a live result, and that is how the wrong download happens. The short tv style of title is not reserved in store search either, and multiple entirely different developers publish near-identical names. MoboReels runs the other way, one authentic app under two publisher names, and TopShort is a third case, an iOS-only app leaving an Android blank other titles fill. The fix takes five seconds: ignore the icon, read the publisher entry, check the download bucket, and open the in-app purchase list before deciding that a shorts app is the one you wanted.

Beyond the Names Everybody Knows Almost all the attention in this segment goes to five apps: ReelShort, DramaBox, ShortMax, My Drama and DramaWave.
